Mononucleosis Also Called "the Kissing Disease",
Mononucleosis often occurs among higher socioeconomic status people in age group of 15-25 years of which college students accounts for 3%.Once infected, a person develops lifelong immunity to future infections from theis disease.EBV has been linked with the growth of certain cancers, like nasopharyngeal carcinoma and Burkitt’s lymphoma.It affects the liver, respiratory system and lymphatic system. Mono, Pfeiffer’s and glandular fever are other name for this disease.
Mono is caused by a virus known as Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) found in saliva and mucus . It is transmitted through through kissing, which is why it is often called the kissing disease. EBV is not highly infectious but mono can also be transmitted through exposure to a cough, sneeze, sexual intercourse or through sharing food utensils (such as drinking glasses, lips gloss, straws spoons and forks) with someone who has mono. Incubation period is usually 4 to 6 weeks after you’re exposed to the virus.
Symptoms of Mono

- Keep away from contact with those who are infected with mononucleiosis.

- Keep good hygiene and wash hands frequently.
- Do not share personal items such as toothbrushes, glasses or eating utensils.
- Drink plenty of fluids to keep away from dehydration.
